Smells Like Teen Spirit (ME)

“Smells Like Teen Spirit” is considered a grunge and alternative rock song that inspired hundreds of grunge bands. Lead singer, Kurt Cobain claimed that the song
was about his generation’s uncaring attitude. Regardless of the meaning, the song and music video generated quite a buzz in the music charts, radio and on MTV and the song became a calling card for Generation X.

R.A.T.M. Killing in the Name (M)

Rage Against the Machine is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California. The band formed in 1991 and consists of vocalist Zack de la Rocha, guitarist Tom Morello, bassist/backup vocalist Tim Commerford, and drummer Brad Wilk. The band mixes heavy metal, rap, punk rock and funk music to make an unique sound. They have sold over 16 million records worldwide and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2023.

California Love (M)

“California Love” is an absolute banger from the legendary 2Pac, featuring the one and only Dr. Dre! This tune marked 2Pac’s triumphant return to the music scene after getting out of prison in 1995, and was his first single as the newest artist of Death Row Records. The track snagged a posthumous nod for the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 1997. I hope you enjoy this Grade 3 marching band arrangement!

“I Want You Back” is the ultimate dance-pop jam that’ll have you dancing like it’s 1997! NSYNC consists of Chris Kirkpatrick, Justin Timberlake, Joey Fatone, Lance Bass, and JC Chasez and this catchy anthem strutted its way into the U.S. in 1998. With the hit-making wizards Max Martin and Denniz Pop behind the scenes, this track took off fast! Two snazzy music videos accompanied the song — one for the debut and another for its globe-trotting re-release. NSYNC sold a whopping 9,854,000 copies in the U.S., snagging the title of the fifth best-selling record of 1998. By 2020, it was sitting pretty at number 137 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums of All Time and both of their first two studio albums were certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America!

What’s Up (M)

“What’s Up?” is a song by American rock group 4 Non Blondes, released in March 1993 by Interscope and Atlantic Records as the second single from their debut album, Bigger, Better, Faster, More! (1992).

The band ended up signing with Interscope in June 1991. When they got signed, the producers knew “What’s Up” sounded like a hit.” It wasn’t a huge hit as the time, peaking at only #14 in the US charts. However, with over a billion YouTube views, “What’s Up” is one of the most popular songs of the ’90s!
